Provisional Licence
Before learning to drive, you must have a provisional driving licence.
Apply for yours at:
Direct Gov or visit your local post office to obtain the D1 form.
You can apply for your provision licence 3 months before your 17th birthday. You can only drive when you have the provisional licence in your possession & you are 17 years of age.
To apply for your licence you need:-
- To be 16 yrs 9 months of age
- A valid UK passport or a passport size photograph signed by an approved person* and an acceptable form of identification
- A D1 (formerly D750) application form
- The fee of the provisional licence
* Who can certify my photograph?
- A local business person or shopkeeper
- A librarian
- A professionally qualified person, e.g. lawyer, teacher or A.D.I.
- A bank or building society officer
- A civil servant
- A minister of religion
- A magistrate
- A local councillor or an MP
The person who certifies your photograph must have known you personally for at least 2 years and must not be a relative.
Send your completed D1 application form together with the fee, your passport or signed photograph and identification to:-
